Youths Arrested for Burglaries
Jobless youths are believed to be responsible for some of the recent burglaries in Smithfield. Three of their number have been arrested and sent to Kroonstad, which is the holding facility for under age children.

Two people were killed and five injured, three seriously, when two cars collided head-on outside Rouxville on Sunday, 20 July. A charge of culpable homicide has been laid by local police.

Scrap metal and fuel theft is the latest crime local police have had to face in the past few weeks.
Several arrests have been made by the Smithfield police and the alleged thieves have been denied bail. They are being held in the police cells.
