Criticising Smiffie & Smithfield
Your smug and overpriced little journal caters mainly for the narrow interests of a small, self-centred clique of stoep-skinnerers and nostalgics, endlessly yearning for “die goeie ou dae”. This is why Smithfielders, if they want to be kept up to date with what’s going on in our corrupt and incompetent municipality, have to rely on a Johannesburg-based newspaper like City Press .
Equally, Smiffie’s grossly exaggerated complaints about the inferred unlawful behaviour of motorcyclists in the town, serve only to divert attention from some of the really scandalous if not criminal behaviour affecting our broader community at large. Examples are plentiful.
Take for instance the town’s whites-only, so-called Christian churches that prohibit black attendees. Or the many employers who pay their domestic servants far below the legal minimum wage. Or the ear-splitting racket of obviously overloaded heavy-duty trucks that damage our roads and emit clouds of black smoke and noxious exhaust fumes, while the local traffic cops look the other way. Or dog owners (like my next-door neighbour) who leave their distressed animals unattended for long periods of time. And so on, and on.
If occasional motorcyclists want to risk their necks on Smithfield’s deeply rutted and pot-holed streets (not to mention all the open or missing manhole covers), then that’s their problem. But for self-appointed custodians of civic responsibility to try to make themselves appear superior by comparison, now that’s another thing entirely. It says a lot for the moral values of some people in this backward little town.

If red Biker is so peeved at what goes on in the town why dont they move to Limpopo province ……what a narrowminded whinger……….
And they have a loads of opinion, but sorely lacking in moral fibre which I guess explains the lack of or fear of identifying themself……what pity that we have such cowardly backstabbing whingers in Smithfield.
