Armed Robbery at Wepener
A construction site at Wepener was the scene of an armed robbery on Wednesday, 25 June. Eight armed men overpowered an operator and security man and stole six vehicles, two computers, a refrigerator, microwave and tools. They handcuffed the two men, bundled them into one of the vehicles and dropped them on the road to Smithfield before driving off.
The police recovered one vehicle with the two computers, the fridge, microwave and tools in Wepener and arrested a 35-year-old man who remains in police custody.
Smithfield SAPS held a highly successful Prayer Against Crime Project on 1 June at the Methodist Church in Mofulatshepe. The project formed part of Childrens’ Month and was supported by 14 churches, together with the police. Chaplains and priests from the SAPS conducted the service.
The emphasis was placed on children’s rights and included advice to parents on raising children.
